Apologies for neglecting this simple bit last time. Outside In is located in downtown Portland about five blocks from the library at 1132 SW 13th Ave Portland, OR 97205-1703. Here is a map for those who like the visuals.
Actually, this is an old opportunity. I started teaching in the transitional housing program at Outside In during October, 2002, and Matt took over in February. This ongoing class is small, but has given us credibility at Outside In. They have had yoga before, but always the one person doing it was not able to sustain the energy. Matt has said he is enjoying teaching this class, but would be interested in sharing it or handing it over to one or more people starting in June or July, as he wants to work in the day program.
The transitional housing group is home for about 25 youth who are working themselves off the street. The youth are able to get some sort of ‘credit’ for wellness work by attending our class.
If anyone is interested, please feel free to email me (Mark) and we will set you up to start teaching in the transitional housing group. The class is currently Wednesdays at 5:30pm, but the time, and even the day are flexible. It will remain an evening program. Orientation and training are still required.
There will be volunteer orientations on both May 21st and June 18th (3d Wednesday of the month) from 6:30 to 9:30pm. These are required for anyone wanting to volunteer at Outside In. You only need to attend one or the other session. John asked that prospective volunteers call him directly at 503.535.3815. He will mail you a volunteer application and schedule you for an orientation. I will leave this in each of your hands to follow through with this. Thanks!
