Families in Shelter
One of the stops many young women make on the circuit of homelessness is the shelter. Shelters are group living situations offering diverse programs, amenities, priviliges and levels of quality.
According to the National Health Care for the Homeless Council, "It is estimated that 2.3 to 3.5 million people are homeless at some point during an average year." They continue to state that "A large segment of the homeless population is families with children, in a survey of 25 cities, accounting for 36% of the homeless population."
We offer two programs for homeless families, one in Portland, OR at the Letty Owings Center and one in San Francisco, CA at Hamilton Family Services. We offer yoga to single mothers in shelter, as well as a separate children's yoga class. We also offer regular Spa Days where the women relax, learn self-care practices, drink tea and enjoy rejuvenating face masks and soothing foot soaks.
