Make an Impact

At the 10th Anniversary Benefit, Street Yoga will feature handmade Prayer Flags made by youth & volunteers in our Yoga Programs. We are working to provide every single teacher, every single partnering agency, with a Sacred Space Toolkit. We hope to include:

SCRAP is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. SCRAP's mission is to inspire creative reuse and environmentally sustainable behavior by providing educational programs and affordable materials to the community.

  • Singing Bowl
  • LED Candle
  • Meditation Book
  • Yoga Deck of Cards
  • Yoga DVD for age-appropriate yoga

Street Yoga already provides yoga mats, yoga pants & appropriate tops, yoga straps and blankets to our youth. Consistently, our volunteers teachers request resources that embody the love that is available through resilience & a deeply grounded practice.

This Initiative is supported by a generous donation from our friends at SCRAP

In the Street Yoga Teacher Training Manual, our experienced trainers share the need to create “Sacred Space”.

Part of your work is to create the appropriate mental, emotional, and physical environment. Your behavior and general attitude can create a relaxed atmosphere of safety  and loving-kindness, but so can the arrangement of props, tables, chairs, and other physical objects. the addition of small artifacts like posters, plants, stones, lights, etc. can turn a sterile conference room into a special space.

As we approach the end of our 10th Year, Street Yoga envisions a brighter future for the youth we serve.

As of 2002, the US Department of Justice reported there are an estimated 1.7 million phentermine 37.5 hcl homeless and runaway youth, most of them between 15-17 years old.  Homeless youth are defined as those who are not in the care of a legal guardian.  This is a staggering number of unaccompanied minors who must fend for themselves.

It’s important that in the face of these difficult facts, we don’t underestimate homless young people’s ability to grow, develop, and succeed.  There can be no doubt that they are resilient.  They are survivors!  They have developed coping skills, built communities, and found ways to feed and clothe themselves and otherwise meet their needs.  Just because we have a clear picture of the many obstacles these youth are up against, that does not mean we should despair for them.  Trust in the many talents and unique attributes of the youth you encounter and try to encourage them at every opportunity. With support and encouragement, they can succeed.  They can thrive.  They can be happy and whole.

Similarly, just as it doesn’t serve us to despair for these youth, it also doesn’t serve us to despair that we will ever make an impact on their lives.

It is incredibly important that you value your unique presence and the ways in which you can bring hope, energy, and healing to the people you serve.
